Transferring Membership Ownership
Every membership has one owner. If that person leaves the school, or hands over the department, ownership can be passed to a colleague.
Owner, team member and class teacher
These are three different things.
| Role | Can do |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including managing the team and transferring ownership |
| Membership team | See and manage every class in the membership |
| Class teacher | See and manage only the classes they are added to |
There is exactly one owner. See Managing your teaching team for adding colleagues at the other two levels.
What happens when you transfer
- The new owner takes over the membership and every class in it.
- The previous owner stays on as a team member, so nobody is locked out mid-handover. Remove them separately if they are leaving.
- The new owner comes off the team list, because ownership already covers it.
- No class, student or progress data is affected.
How to do it
- Go to the Classes page and open Manage Team.
- Choose the teacher to transfer ownership to.
- Confirm.
The person receiving ownership must already have a teacher account on your membership. A student account cannot own a membership.
If the owner has already left
If the only owner's account has gone and nobody else can manage the membership, get in touch and we can reassign it.
It is far easier to transfer before somebody leaves than afterwards, so it is worth adding to your leavers process.
Screens in these guides use a demonstration account, so your own school name, courses and dates will be different.
