Removing & Moving Students
Registers change through the year. Here is how to keep yours accurate, and what each action does to a pupil's work.
Removing a student from a class
- Open the class and go to the Students tab.
- Find the pupil and remove them from the class.
Their account is not deleted and their quiz results are not deleted. They stop appearing on that register, and they lose access to that class's courses.
Students cannot remove themselves. This is deliberate, so registers stay accurate.
Moving a student to a different class
Add them to the new class first, then remove them from the old one. In that order they are never without access.
If both classes are in the same membership, their seat carries across without using a second place.
What happens to their work
| Action | Their marks and progress |
|---|---|
| Removed from a class | Kept |
| Added to another class | Kept, and visible to that class's teacher |
| Removed from every class | Kept on the account, but no longer visible to you |
Progress belongs to the student's account rather than to the class, so moving a pupil between your classes loses nothing.
Leavers
A pupil who has left keeps their seat until they are removed from every class in the membership. If you are close to your seat limit, clearing out leavers is the quickest way to make room. See Student Seats.
Worth doing once at the end of each year, rather than discovering it when you cannot add your new intake.
Screens in these guides use a demonstration account, so your own school name, courses and dates will be different.
