Class Settings & Join Codes
The Settings tab covers the housekeeping: the class name, the join code, whether students may add themselves, and deleting a class you no longer need.
Open your class and choose Settings.

Renaming a class
Change the name and save. Nothing else is affected: students, progress, tasks and teachers all stay exactly as they are.
It is worth using names that will still make sense next year. "Year 10 Set 1" becomes confusing when the same class moves into Year 11, so many teachers include the intake year instead.
The join code
Every class has its own code, shown here and in the blue bar at the top of the class screens. Students enter it to join.
Issuing a new code. Click the refresh icon beside the code. The old code stops working immediately. Students already in the class are unaffected, so this is safe to do at any time.
Reasons to issue a new one:
- The code was shared beyond your class.
- Students from another group have joined by mistake.
- You reuse the class for a new intake and want the old code dead.
Allowing students to join themselves
You can turn self-joining on or off.
- On: students who have the code can add themselves. Best at the start of term when you want a class populated quickly.
- Off: the code stops working entirely, and you add students yourself.
Turning it off once your register is settled is a sensible precaution. It prevents a code from an old worksheet or whiteboard photo being used months later.
Students already in the class are never affected by this setting.
Renaming your membership
The membership name is changed from the Classes page rather than here. Click the pencil icon beside the membership dropdown at the top.
This is the name your whole department sees, so it is usually best as your school or department name.
Deleting a class
Deleting is permanent and cannot be undone.
What happens:
- The class, its tasks and its register are removed.
- Student accounts are not deleted. They keep their accounts and their progress history.
- The seats used by those students are freed for other classes.
What to do instead. If you are finishing a year and want a clean start, it is usually better to remove the students from the class and add the new intake, keeping the class and its tasks. If you genuinely no longer teach the group, deleting is fine.
Before deleting, consider exporting the Tracker for your records, since the class data goes with it.
Seats and your subscription
Your membership includes a set number of student places, shown on the Students tab as seats used against seats available.
A student occupies one seat regardless of how many of your classes they are in, so the same pupil in two of your groups uses one place, not two.
If you are running short, removing students from classes they have finished frees seats up. If you need more, get in touch.
Screens in this guide use a demonstration class. Your own class names, students and data will differ.
