Managing Your Teaching Team
Most departments have several teachers who need access. There are two levels, and choosing the right one saves a lot of admin.
The two levels of access
| Level | Sees | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Membership team | Every class in the membership, present and future | Heads of department, technicians, cover staff |
| Class teacher | Only the classes they are added to | Teachers who need their own groups |
A membership team member does not need adding to each class individually. They get access to every class under that membership automatically, including any you create later.
There is also the membership owner, who is whoever the subscription belongs to. The owner has full access and cannot be removed.
The Teachers tab
Open a class and choose Teachers to see everyone who can access it.

The Access column tells you where each person's access comes from:
- Membership owner, the subscription holder.
- Membership team, access to all classes.
- Class teacher, added to this class specifically.
Owner and team rows are shown for information and are locked, because their access comes from the membership rather than from this class. To change those, use Manage Team instead.
Adding a class teacher
On the Teachers tab, use the invite field to add someone to this class only.
- If they already have an account, they are added straight away.
- If they do not, they receive an invitation email and join your class as soon as they have registered.
Either way you do not need to chase anything.
Managing the membership team
Go to the Classes page and click Manage Team next to Add Class.
From there you can:
- Add a teacher to the team, by email address. As with class teachers, they are added immediately if they have an account and invited if not.
- Remove a teacher from the team. They lose access to all classes in the membership, though anything they created stays.
- Transfer ownership to another teacher.
Only the membership owner can manage the team or transfer ownership. Team members can see the team but not change it.
Transferring ownership
Use this when the person who bought the subscription is leaving, or when the wrong account holds it.
Transferring ownership:
- Makes the other teacher the owner, with full control.
- Moves your classes to the new owner's name, so nothing is lost if your account is later deleted.
- Leaves you on the team, unless you are removed afterwards.
Ownership can only be transferred to a teacher account, not a student one.
Editing teacher details
You cannot edit a colleague's name, email or password. Teachers manage their own account details, which is deliberate. If a colleague needs their details changed, they can do it themselves from their profile.
Which should I use?
Use the membership team for anyone who needs to see across the department, and class teachers for anyone who only needs their own groups. If you find yourself adding the same person to every class one at a time, they should be on the team instead.
Screens in this guide use a demonstration class. Your own class names, students and data will differ.
