Individual student analysis

This page pulls together everything about one student in one class: how hard they are working compared with their classmates, what they have not mastered, what they have not attempted, and where their tasks stand.

It is built for the conversations you have to justify, whether that is a parents' evening, an intervention decision or a report comment.

Getting there

• From the Tracker, click the small icon beside a student's name.
• From Insights, click a name in the attention list or a dot on the effort chart.
• From Lesson Insights, click a name in the student table.

At the top you get their name, email address and when they were last active, plus a link back to the Tracker.

The four comparison cards

Each card carries two small bars. The top one is the student, the bottom one is the class median, both scaled to whichever is larger. You are meant to read the ratio rather than exact values: a student whose top bar is half the length of the bottom one is doing half the work of a typical classmate.

The class median is used rather than the mean so that one very keen student does not distort the comparison.

Weak Spots

Quizzes the student has attempted but not mastered, meaning a best mark under 80%, weakest first. Each row shows the mark, the quiz name and how many attempts they made.

A low mark after many attempts is a very different problem from a low mark after one. The first suggests genuine difficulty, the second suggests they have not really tried yet.

Not Yet Attempted

Quizzes that at least half the class has tried and this student has not.

This is deliberately relative. It does not list everything left in the course, only the things their classmates have already covered, so it shows where the student has fallen behind the group rather than where the course happens to end.

Course Progress

A bar per assigned course showing steps completed against the total. This is the "how far through are they" figure, useful context for everything above.

Tasks

Every task this student has in this class, with the most urgent first.

Each row shows how many of the task's lessons they have passed and the due date. Click a task name to open it.

Completion counts work done within the task window. A quiz passed before the task was set does not count towards it, which is intentional so that a task measures the work you actually asked for.

Using this page well

Read the cards first, since effort against attainment frames everything else. Then Weak Spots tells you what to teach, and Not Yet Attempted tells you what to chase.

A student with low effort and low attainment needs a different conversation from one with high effort and low attainment. The second is trying and needs the material presented differently.

Screens in this guide use a demonstration class. Your own class names, students and data will differ.
