Setting Tasks
A task is a piece of work with a deadline: revision before a test, catch-up over half term, or homework on the lessons you covered this week. You choose the lessons, the students and the dates, and the platform tracks who has done it.
Open your class and choose the Tasks tab.

The three groups
Tasks are grouped by where they sit in time.
| Group | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Upcoming | The start date has not arrived. Students cannot see it yet |
| Active | Open now. Students can work on it |
| Expired | The deadline has passed |
Creating a task
Click Create Task on the Tasks tab.

Work down the form:
- Title. Something the class will recognise, for example "Networks revision before Friday's test".
- Course. Choose from the courses assigned to this class.
- Lessons. Tick the lessons the task covers. Students see these as their to-do list.
- Students. By default everyone is selected. Untick anyone it does not apply to.
- Start and due dates. The start date controls when students first see it.
- Save.
Include future joiners
There is an option to include students who join the class later. Tick it and anyone added afterwards picks the task up automatically. This is useful for a task that runs over several weeks while your register is still settling.
Leave it unticked for a one-off piece of work aimed at the students you have today.
Watching progress
Click any task to open its own page. You get a summary at the top, then a table showing every student against every lesson in the task, so you can see who has finished and who has not started.
The columns work the same way as the main Tracker, so marks are colour coded and you can sort by any of them.
Task states on a student's page
When you look at an individual student, their tasks are labelled:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Completed | They passed every lesson in the task |
| Active | Open now, not yet finished |
| Upcoming | Not started yet |
| Incomplete | The deadline passed without completion |
Incomplete is final. Once a deadline has gone, the task cannot be completed, which is why it is not described as overdue.
Sharing and reassigning
The Actions menu on a task page offers:
- Share Task, which gives you a link to send, plus buttons for Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and email.
- Re-Assign Task, which creates a fresh copy of the same task. You can send it to everyone, only students who did not complete all lessons, or only those who did not reach 60%. This is the quickest way to set catch-up work.
- Edit Task and Delete Task.
