Adding Students
There are three ways to get students into a class. Which you choose depends on whether the students already have accounts and how much you want to type.
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| CSV upload | Setting up a whole class at the start of term |
| Class code | Students who can type a code themselves |
| QR code | Getting a class signed up quickly in the room |
All three live behind the same button. Open your class, stay on the Students tab, and click Add Students on the right.

Method 1: CSV upload
Best for creating a lot of accounts at once.
- Click Add Students.
- Click Download demo file to get a correctly formatted spreadsheet.
- Fill it in, one student per row.
- Drag your finished file onto the upload area, or click it to browse.
The demo file shows exactly which columns are expected. Keep the headings as they are and only change the rows beneath.
A few things worth knowing:
- Email addresses must be unique. If a student already has an account with that address, they are added to your class rather than duplicated.
- Names are tidied automatically, so
SMITHandsmithboth becomeSmith. - You will see a summary once the upload finishes, including any rows that could not be processed and why.
Seats: your membership includes a set number of student places. The Students tab shows how many you have used. If an upload would take you over your limit, it stops and tells you.
Method 2: the class code
Every class has its own class code, shown in the blue bar at the top of the class screens and in the Add Students window.
Give the code to your students. They sign in (or register), then enter the code to join your class. Nothing else is needed from you.
This suits classes where students already have accounts, or where they are able to register themselves.
If a code is shared too widely, click the refresh icon next to it to issue a new one. The old code stops working immediately, and students already in the class are unaffected.
Method 3: the QR code
The Add Students window also shows a QR code for the same join link.
Put it on the whiteboard and have students scan it with a phone or tablet. It takes them straight to the join page with your class already selected, so they do not need to type the code at all.
This is usually the fastest way to get a room full of students signed up.
The student register link
Underneath the CSV area is a student register link. Copy it and send it to students by email or through your usual channels. It does the same job as the QR code, in a form you can paste into a message.
Editing or removing students
Back on the Students tab, tick the checkbox next to one or more students to reveal the Actions menu.
- Edit changes a student's name, email address or password. Editing details is available for one student at a time.
- Reset Progress clears their quiz and lesson history for this class. This cannot be undone.
- Remove takes them out of the class. It does not delete their account, and it frees up the seat.
> Note: students at schools that manage their own accounts cannot change > their own name or email. That is deliberate, so registers stay accurate.
What next?
- Assigning courses, so the class has something to study
- Setting tasks, homework with deadlines
Screens in this guide use a demonstration class. Your own class names, students and data will differ.
